Two fold question...

1. Does the aluminum base of this roof vent look ok against the black? I was thinking of painting it black to match but I refuse to use spray paint because it will eventually peel and a reapplication would be very difficult, so I will have to brush something on. I HATE peeling spray paint, just ask my truck. yuk. Not to mention if I don't paint it, that means I can go out in the garage right now and glue and screw it in and move on to something else! So I guess I can "deal" with it being aluminum just wanted some feedback on your thoughts on how it looked to you as-is. I think the aluminum seam strip helps.

2. is this roof vent aluminum ok to leave as-is concerning weather proof? Will it discolor/rust or otherwise look nasty after a year? It will be garage kept but will see some rain I am sure.

If'n it were me....I'd scuff the aluminum with a scotch brite pad, pick up some self etching primer from an auto paint store (rattle can) prime it and spray it black. If you have any doubts on the color now...better just do it and not always wish you had down the road. It's easiest now. I've painted the window frames on 3 of my trailers and they have held up fine. You can leave it raw aluminum, but it will probably oxidize and water spot. Doug

That alum may turn color after being in the sun ( dull out)
Personally, I would paint it black, makes it blend in more.

OK I can't argue with that. I am git r done mode so I just wanted to DO IT. I'm heading up to the box to get some paint. I'll scuff it good and primer it too. Thanks for the input!

If you are going to paint it, you might as well do the same to the trim you having going across the top.

I used appliance epoxy on mine. Followed the directions on the can.

That's a nice suggestion Miriam! I have been spending the afternoon painting, but yes, it will be worth the wait. I sanded, and put three coats of primer on it and just put my first coat of gloss on. I will probably do four coats. It will look much better, thanks for the encouragement to go the extra mile!

I am not going to paint the seam trim, I actually like the way they look against the black for these pieces, but that is a good suggestion, I sat and pondered it for a while haha

More pics once the paint dries and I can pull off the masking and drop it in place.

Stainless pan head screws might make a nice accent. Doug

haha good guess! That's exactly what I got when I was out getting the paint! Thanks Doug! I think they will look good against the black too. Not much accomplished today actually although I could have done lots more. I am going to hopefully do the front seam trim at least tonight. Just watching a movie and playing guitar while the paint dries....
