removable body ideas from trailer/truck

Postby Ron Dickey » Fri Mar 25, 2005 1:03 am

To remove a removable body I want to use
camper lift poles on all four corners
have a wench to pull it back on or even off
have small wheels like on a dolly
2x4 covered with metal a ski type hookups
a small crane (an unusal approch)
be able to stand it on end and just tip out (galley can be removed on mine)
tie to a tree and drive away (boom)
any other ideas
put wax paper/graphite on the bottom
hook to air compressor and hover it.

what did you do or would you do? to  (slide it off)

Build a rack/platform to slide it on to at the correct height and a couple of roller under. I built my last to cabins in my shed and rolled them right out onto my frame with three pieces of pipe easily.

If it were me (and I'm planning on that being the case) - I'd build the thing large enough, and designed so I could open up the back and use it as a small enclosed trailer. Just get the mattress out of the way and load it up with whatever I want to bring with me.

She's going to have to be a hefty wench. I don't even know where a bloke can find a wench these day. The pub, I suppose.

removing body

Postby David Beckett » Mon Mar 28, 2005 3:42 pm

Ron,

I'm building a removeable teardrop. My plan is to keep as light as possible. I don't have a kitchen. I'll use my teenage boys to lift it, drive the trailer out from under it, and set it on blocks or jacks. I only plan on doing this once in the fall and spring.
