I know this was covered a while ago, but I can't find the answer.

How much room should one leave between the matress and the bottom of the cabinets for clearance for your feet. I seem to remember that bout 12" was the average?

We have had this discussion before - anyone remember the answer?

The dimension needs to be made up of:
- mattress thickness (not much compression under your foot) : 4"?
- length of longest sleeper's foot : 12"?
- clearance : 4"?

So that's my shot : 20"

The 'Cubby' plans call for 17 5/8 inches (without the mattress)!

I was thinking 12" in addition to the mattress, which is 7" thick (I'm using a standard household mattress), so 19" - 20" should work (I've got size 10 feet)?

My trailer has 9 inches between the matress and the underside of the galley which overhangs the inside by 11 inches. I have size 13 feet and don't have any problem with the clearance.
