Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

When looking at the various plans and reading members comments I was wondering if an 8 foot teardrop would give me enough interior room. I am 6'5" tall and weigh about 230 pounds. Most of the time I would be solo in the trailer. In my 'newby' postI wrote that I was not interested in putting a galley at the rear of my teardrop so in theory an 8 foot cabin should suffice as to sleeping room. I am still debating the 4 foot wide versus the 5 foot wide plan.

As a tall guy you can build so your sleeping area extends all, or most of, the way to the rear. If you want cargo space too there's room for it above your feet accessible by a rear hatch. Little Guy teardrops are built somewhat like that.

I'm 6' 4" and building mine with a 63" by 122" floor area for a queen sized bed in front and a 30" deep galley in the rear.

I didn't put a galley in my first one when built, but I did add one later. leave room for it..... or figure your galley will not go to the floor.

Galleys are very convenient for cooking, and just as important, having all your cooking stuff ready to go anytime you want to head out.

Obviously I should allow some room back there but I don't want to compromise my leg room and I am not one for cooking my meals outdoors unless its on my backyard BBQ.

I'm 6'4" and have 80 inches in mine, perfect for a queen size bed. You should be great with 8'.

Sounds good and cozy. I am trying to keep it small so I figure 8 feet should be the maximum outside length.

I am 6'6" and went with 10 ft.

I'm 6'4" (O.K. ... 6'3-1/2" since my surgery) ... trailer is 4'x8' ... mattress length is 82" ... and I've got a galley ...

OK I'm not 6'+ but the way I figured the length of my TD is...

Start with your bed length. What length bed do you sleep in at home? Do your feet hang off the bed? If you have a head and foot board would you be cramped? Usualy your TD bed fills the cabin from wall to wall to cabinets. Now is the time to have some extra length (longer that a standard matress and some space to hang your feet)(or longer and make a longer foam bed)

To help figure out bed size. Measure out on a floor and put up some "walls" by standing up some cardboard or plywood.

(I also measured my tents to give me some reference of cabin size)

After you know your bed size/sleeping area then you can add the size of your front cabinets, if you want them. Then add the size of your galley cabinets. Don't forget the measurements of the front and middle bulkheads (walls) also the thickness of the hatch.

Add all the dimentions up and that will give you your length.

P.S. 4' wide was not wide enough for me. (remember you loose the thickness of the side walls)

I'm 5'5"...trailer is 5'x10', queen mattress inside, full galley (no sink) outside. Love it, especially 5' wide.

Your idea is good. My mattress is 80" and there is no footboard. My feet hang out but that's the way I like it. Given that a 96" overall TD will be fine. Just have to determine the width as I mentioned earlier. I know I could put a storage shelf above my feet and that would not bother me.
