Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

Well folks the little one needs her own bed now (almost a year old). My trailer has an upper bunk/cabinet I want to use for her to sleep in but I need to figure out a way to keep her from falling out and landing on my head while I sleep!



So far the only idea I have is to use a heavy cargo net (1"-2" webbing) attached to the ceiling and the cabinet with eye screws and carabiners so I could hook/unhook it when I need to.

Am I crazy here?

Here are a couple pictures to show what I'm working with. I want to keep the cabinet functional if possible.

Seriously, I think the webbing idea is a good one.

Make a little rail, a scrunched down version of the side of a crib. Hinge it on the bottom, and use a couple toggle bolts to keep it in the up position. It sounds safer to me than netting.

This is probably a better idea. The baby might get a finger in the net or pull it loose and get it around the neck.

My concern is getting the baby out safely and quickly in an emergency. Bars will do that better. You don't need the sides to go all the way up but the bolts need to be capable of keeping the little one in while making it easy for you to get the little darling out.

I would make a rail. The net would work but there is always a chance she could get hung in it.

or you could use some type of canvas and pole thing. kinda like a "soft gate"

If I had a dollar for every time I have wished I could do that!

The old canned ham trailers made the bunk out of canvas. Would the sway in the canvas be enough to keep from rolling out?

Here is what I was thinking I would use for the webbing and just attach it top and bottom all the way across the bed with some caribiners to open easily. I think its small enough she won't get caught up in it




I'm afraid if I make a wood railing I won't be able to fold it down to get her out or put her in when she is laying in there without smacking her

Any thoughts?

What about using webbing like that fastened to a wood frame. Sort of a cross between the webbing idea and the bars idea. I'm thinking a frame would keep the webbing pulled tight so there would be no possibility of the little one getting tangled up.

Thats basicaly what I was thinking. I could put a wood bar on the top of the webbing and use a couple eye hooks above and below with a few small caribiners (for easy release) so it would be pulled tight to the ceiling and to the bottom of the bed so she can't get over or under. Wow this just might work!

You can always try! I think the combination is a good idea. Just make sure the hooks are child proof and easy

I'd use a net, not a lip.

tell me to shut up but what about using a couple of retractable seatbelts that can be unclipped and retracted . Or a series of wooden slats on 2 canvas strips fixed at the bottom so it can all be rolled down for storage or clipped up to stop the little one landing on you.
