What size to go with?

I have started the floor on my trailer. At first I was going to do a 4x8 Benroy but after thinking about it for a couple of weeks I decided to go bigger. As it stands right now I'm at 66"x96". Should I cut down the sides to 5' and do 5x10 by ptting an extra foot on both ends. What do you think?

Hi, DrJones:

I'd say how wide and long you make it has a lot to do with the pulling strength of what you will be using as a tow vehicle.

If you're looking to save gas mileage by staying within your tow vehicle's lines, you already know part of the answer. :D

Another point: You can pull more weight if you have brakes on your trailer. Weight is a big factor with this one. When your trailer reaches a certain weight, maybe 1500 lbs, many states require brakes.

If you have a new vehicle or plan to get one, check the owner’s manual, in the towing section and the brakes section. That will tell you what you can do without negating the vehicle warranty.

These are some starting points at how to come to your trailer size decisions. Others will chime in with their opinions. :)

I went with the 5x10. 4' did not seem wide enough and i read some negative things on them and the 10' was because i am 6'6". So i would think it over ask plenty of questions and gt input before i made a final decision.

Drjones, I have a 4x12 TD & wish I had made it 5 ft wide. It weighs 1100 dry , So the weight should not be too bad. My frame is an old popup trailer & is very heavy 2inch by 4 inch box steel allthe way around. Try laying down on a 4x8 sheet of plywood with your best half & see how it is with out hanging over the edge! Good luck on your build!!

Oh by the way,,,,,, mine is for sale tooo!! :applause: :applause:
