Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

I posted a few more pics in the album, I think we are making progress? We have most of the painting done and the galley started, installed the interior cabinets and a shelf over the head end of the bed. We still have to seal the hatch hinges, screen the door frames, make hatch props, install some drawers in the galley and paint it, paint the interior ceiling, and floor, make fenders, door latches, weld on the ball coupler, wire the tail lights and get the tires on! Other than that not much left!!

MRW, what a great project for the class. They'll learn a lot from the construction of the teardrop. What plans are in the future for the teardrop. Raffle? Sale? Class campout??

Blimey, I wish I'd had a chance to build something like that at school... closet we got was a chess table.

She won't have disc brakes those are old style chevy pu hubs and spindles that are all one piece all they will do is hold the rims on. Had another pretty good day we got the screen frames and screen put together and a little touch up paint . Need to put door latches on the doors about next , anyone with a good idea for a simple latch? I don't have a lot of extra room around my windows in the door so I'd like to keep it small and simple and have something the kiddo's could manufacture rather than go to the camper store and buy! Partly on this project I am trying to get them to think out things rather than always solve the problem by just going to the store and buy it! In fact I have had one "student" mention that his solution was- don't they sell these camper someplace why don't you just go buy one instead of going to all of that work building it! I thought to myself there goes the next future CEO for AIG

For my door latch I used one from an old John Deere grain combine setting around my place. You probably have some of those setting around Kansas. I have the same thing in my Massey tractor also. But that one stays. I am still using the tractor.

But your doors are way to narrow for them to work.

Why didn't we have teachers like you at our school... they were more interested in ticks in boxes... yeah sure I could use a mitre saw or make a mortice joint, but what are they used for in the real world again Sir?

Fantastic project to get kids thinking though... and for the future CEO of AIG, you might be able to appeal to him by reminding him that the sum of parts will have a value when complete far greater than anything he could ever buy in a store!

What an amazing project for the kids and you. My husband always said one of the best ways to learn is project based! I have a question.. what is white trim around the edge?

Alright. That'll teach 'em right. I decided to build last year because, hte kids were old enough,I hope, to realize what we had done, and see they can do whatever they want to in life.
