Bracket For LED Third Stop & Tail Lights

There has been some discussion on how to get a LED third stop light and clearance strip to display straight on, on the rear of a teardrop. This is what I have come up with. Made out of 1/8" x 1 ½" x 1 ½" aluminum angle and some scraps of 1/8" x 3/4" x 3/4" aluminum angle. I just cut the aluminum angle at the correct angle to position the top edge level on my leveled teardrop. It attaches with only two screws that go through the screw holes in the LED light strip. You'll notice some Bondo over my patch work. I had to do some surgery to bring up more wires since this light strip has blinkers too. I’ll retrofit TD # 2 the same way. You can never be too safe when towing your blood, sweat, and tears project, besides it's required if your over 80" wide. :D Danny

:applause: Looks great Danny.

I'm almost hesitant to ask this, for fear of starting a heated discussion, but did you cut your aluminum angle on the table saw?

Thanks, Tom

Thanks Tom.
Why of course I cut it on my table saw ;) with an 80 tooth Non-Ferris metal blade. It can be done safely. I refined it more on my edge sander. :D Danny

Danny,
I think that is the same light I have to put on mine when I get that far. I have the matching regular tail lights too. I've been trying to figure out a way to mount it. Your solution looks good. Nice job!

Nice work and a very good idea Danny. That mount makes for a very professional looking install.

I have that same light Danny, only with a clear lens. I monted mine flush on the back. It's not as high up as yours but it's higher than the other lights on the back of the trailer. They should be seen just fine (I hope!).

Yeah, I have one of those lights too. I welded a piece of angle iron to my bike rack to protect and mount the light.
It's only a running light and stop light but it should warn others adequately. :D Danny

That’s a really nice job. It looks very clean and better than professional. No one gonna know that was homemade!

Thanks, Brian, Shaun & Kenny. The bike rack light idea came about while towing with bikes on the back of the teardrop. I was concerned with the bikes blocking the view of my tail lights. After one failed attempt with one of those tailgate LED light strips falling apart this idea seemed more bullet proof and permanent. :D Danny

Danny, I like that bike rack light. I had considered the need for additional lights when using one of those hitch mounted cargo carriers, but I hadn't thought about a bike rack.

Here's a Link to the type of bike rack I have. Works great on the rear of our teardrop. :D Danny
