Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

Ok i predrilled the holes in the chassis frame to the floor frame after i add assembled it. i even bolted the frame to the floor when i applied the plywood deck and now that i have waterproofed the underside flipped over and want to bolt the floor to the chassis the holes at about 1/4 inch off meaning i cant bolt it.

I am thinking i am trying to bolt it when it was cooler when i predrilled the holes, chassis shrinkage. is this possible? or do i just enlarge my holes from 3/8 to 1/2 inch. i can still do a washer with the flange bolt or do you think i could go with 1/4 inch bolt instead of teh 5/16.

Are you sure you don't have the floor rotated 180 degrees from when you drilled the holes? If ya flipped it lengthwise the first time and flipped it back over from side to side, you're gonna be out 180 degrees.

nope the floor is in the correct position. first thing i checked.

So you could remove the bolts from the cabin and relocate them (I would have drilled on assembly) – plug the hole with a wooden dowel and re-drill; or, you could weld up the holed in the trailer, grind them flush and re-drill. Another option might be to slot the hole in the trailer and the just install the bolt with a decent washer.

Did it get out of square when you predrilled, or when assembling? Now that is there, drill it out, stick in a larger bolt. That's what I'd do. Doug

What i did was used a block and tackle and adjusted teh floor to match up the hole and hammered those suckers in. worked like a charm. i did have to enlarge one hole other than that i feel good about it.

Question though do you just put bolts on teh sides or do you have any on teh front as well.

I only put three 3/8" carriage bolts per side. But you may never know that, because I know I replied to this thread this morning and my reply has not shown up here yet.

I put I am assuming grade 2, 5/16 bolts. i put 4 on each side. I had drilled enough for 5 in teh chassis. I also drilled 3 in the front and two at the rear. However have not placed the bolts in as of yet. there is always tomorrow.

General Motors only used four 3/8" bolts to hold the bed on my Silverado, I think the 6 I used for the TD will be more than enough......

That tear ain't going no where!

Only George on the Seinfeld show, has a problem with shrinkage...........If the holes don't line up, ream 'em bigger and use a fender washer to hide your corrective measures........Poor George.
