Undercoating

I was thinking of putting a coat or two of CPES on the underside of my TD floor before applying the evil smelling, gooey Gardners green can stuff to it.
Has anyone done this or is it even necessary with the Gardners?

Whether it is "necessary" (or not) is debateable. Some say yes, some say no. I wanted to be extra safe so that's what I did. Two coats of CPES and a thick coat of the black goo.

I thought about doing it but didn't. I used 3+ coats of CPES instead. I did write to the Rot Doc and ask them. Here is my question and the answer I got:

Sharon,
They will, as long as the CPES'd surface is not glossy. You might give the surface a light sanding with some 175 (or similar) git paper before applying the roofing tar.

I'm using three coats CPES - cured and sanded - followed by a light coat of spray rubberized undercoating. (I still need to do the undercoating part.)

I used a coat of Roofer's Pride roof patch from Wal-Mart brushed onto bare plywood. Actually, brushed isn't the word. The stuff is as thick as peanut butter, so it was more like squeegeed on with sticks. It has worked well for 3 years of towing through several hard rainstorms, and one winter run over wet, salted roads. No water penetration into the floor at all! You might not need the CPES.
