newbe with a HF speed ?

Hi
I'm in the planning stages and want to use the 1800# HF frame.
I looked at the online PDF manual and it says not to excede 45mph.
Has anyone had any probs doing the normal posted speeds?

Welcome!
I'm not using a HF Chassis, but severl here are.
I do know that many of the HF users do relocate their axles, sliding them to the rear of the trailer a bit, so I would think that would improve the performance of the trailer somewhat.
I remember reading that Joseph stated he runs along at 70 mph with no problems, it was in a thread about 12" wheels.
Interesting question... I've never seen the HF users talk about that.

Thanks for the fast reply. I was going to adjust the axle position to get
the tongue weight just right. My thougths about the speed is that it might only becomming from the legal department.

Most likely, U-hauls say the same thing. I know that I've taken them to at least 65mph. Not to mention the people who pass me on the highway while towing them.

I've had no problems with 65 and 70. Have been pulling the trailer for about 2 years, the tear version about 1 month. I notice no difference. Have had no problems with the bearings or overheating on the hubs.

The wheels that came with my Red Trailer are marked "Max highway speed 55 MPH". So I figure as long as I'm not on an Interstate, I can go as fast as I want.

I have three HF trailers (think I've mentioned that before ) and have towed one of them for the past 20 years. I've made trips in excess of 200 miles on Interstates at sustained speeds of 65 - 70 mph with a variety of loads from empty to heavy. There are many post exhibiting concern for the HF trailers. Bottom line is - You have the same 1" bearings/races on all these axles with the same rating. Possible difference might be with accepted tolerances and QC since these are made in China.

Another Bottom Line: Maintenance Maintenance Maintenance Maintenance.
Don't run them dry or over load them and they'll last for years. Buy one, keep it up and it'll serve you well.

Oh, I replaced all 8" tires with 12".
