Paint will not hide imperfections in the surface of the wood exterior. I am not putting Aluminum on my TD. But I am counter sinking all exterior screws and filling the holes with epoxy filler. I believe wood plugs will take too much time and will work loose. REgular filler will not bond For these reasons I am going with epoxy filler. I plan on using epoxy paint available at True Value, also.
Good luck

What I do on boats, which may be out of control is.... use epoxy for the glue, shoot a screw into it until it cures, back the screw out, then drill out the hole and sink a plug or bung into it using epoxy. If you want fast this isn't the technique for you, but on a boat deck it looks great. That's what I'm going to do on the maple framing on the sides of my woody. It's been my experience that a filler will tend to shrink and the color isn't going to match. Check out my album for a photo of the boat deck for an example...... Doug Hodder
