Minimal practical Trailer / Floor height - axels

What is the minimal practical trailer height I should consider, and what type axels should I consider? To make this simple, lets say to the bottom of the trailer frame. I'l like to keep the center of gravity low, and I will never be doing any offroad use.

I'll be using 15 inch wheels, and not sure if I should go with a full torsion axel or torsion half axels. And on a related note, are half axels OK to use, or do they have some disadvantage?

Thanks in advance.

one disadvantage of torsion half axles is they will need alignment.

on the ground clearance, that will depend on the length of the trailer. driving through town can be an off road experience going in and out of a gas station or parking lot.

Rasp - good point. The trailer itself will be 9 ft long, with another to be determined length for the tow bar. I suspect 3.5 to 4 ft.

Thanks,

I'm running a Dexter TorFlex axle (full-width beam) with the max 22.5ยบ Up trailing arm angle, 17" wheels with 45 series tires ... my ground clearance to the bottom of the frame is about 11", just over 10" to the bottom of the "roll pans" ... I've had it down some rutted gravel roads, forded some creeks, and drug it out through the "pasture" at Lawson's Landing campgrounds (and several others ... ;) ...), and I've had NO problems! Trailer is 8' long, with a 3' tongue.

Half-axles are fine, but as mentioned before, can be a challenge to align. Consider the Flexi-Rides with the adjustable trailing arm angle (I'm hoping they've decided to offer 'em with lighter load-ratings than 1500# though, haven't checked in a while).

Good luck, and ...

CHEERS!

I used half axles that are adjustable because I didn't have to determine the axle face to face distance or the ride height at the start of the build. I'm glad I did it that way as I have lowered it since building it. I found it can be quite a bit lower than I originally thought.
