No pictures yet. I just mounted my stereo with the faceplate in the galley. We spend more time outside than in. Also, remember to install a "master" switch for the stereo power as to not drain the battery when not in use for longer periods. FYI, if you mount it in the galley your chances of not seeing the back of the radio in one of the cupboards of the sleeping berth would look best. Good Luck. I am at work this morning but I'll post the pics later.

I would opt for the cabin and a set of remote speakers in the galley. A simple double pole double throw switch could control the location of the speakers. Many of the automotive type stereos have a front and rear fader balance that would do the same. It is a whole lot easier to reach in during the day and make adjustments than to go to the galley and tune in a station at night.

I didn't mount a stereo. I use my MP3 player and some portable speakers. All my favorite music and no commercials.

Portable speakers and MP3 for me, too. I can also use the speakers with my portable DVD player if needed.

Portable speakers and MP3 for me THREE, no wires. Too Easy.

Best location for a stereo?

At home. The only times I use such a thing in my camp is when I am trying to drown out the sound coming from a neighboring camp's stereo, in which case I end up using the one in the tow vehicle. There are many natural sounds out there and one of my favorites is known as silence, or at least no mechanically/electronically reproduced sound.

Heres mine, it is in the center drawer of the cabinet of the foot of the bed.

You old fossils are showing your age. I also tend to disfavor electronics but they can be a real asset during unsure weather.

Example ..... Our spring gathering Jeff ( nitrox junkie ) had a redneck antenna and tv. Because of this we were able to get early warning on a weather channel of a rather wicked rain storm with high winds. We took extra efforts tying down pop ups and gathered in items to light to stay put and those not weatherproof. We had time to erect "party central" a 10 x 20 open sided tent and tied it down down down. While othere huddled in their trailers or chased their tumbling pop ups across the park we simply partied on. I won't say we were bone dry but we had far more fun than most all because of a little early warning !

It is truly fortunate that I enjoy a good thunderstorm. The name "Rainmaker" was a strong contender as the name for my TD, because every time I go camping the chances of rain increases 10 fold. I could make a fortune by pitching a tent in drought stricken areas if only I could get the farmers to "believe". I always set up a rain and wind tolerant camp, so I can sit back and enjoy the sound, smell and sights of the storm. I've found that most camping gear is somewhat water resistant, bed rolls being one major exception.

...certainly don't mind a weather radio...I have portable version, nor is a tv bad for a little news/weather/sports(if ya just gotta). What I take exception to, is the stereo playing 24/7, in competition with all the GLORIOUS sounds provided by Mother Nature!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Larwyn,
You need to be doing some SERIOUS camping in TX right now! We’re having some REAL rain ‘issues’ right now! We need all the help we can get, so do some camping AND some rain dancing!

My stereo system is the sounds of nature coming from the left of me, and the right of me. I can't change the volume, but the music is often very good.

Im well aware of the wonderful sounds of silence while camping . I feel you on that 100%. My tear is going to be used at many funtions . We like camping at Va beach and also plan on taking it to many NHRA DRAG RACING events and NASCAR events so the need to be able to tap in to there public address systems and live coverage is crucial to us . Thanks to all who posted we will lean to bob henrys idea on at least putting in cabin Thanks again
