Roof underlayment question

Anyone ever used a product used in the roofing trade for ice damming protection? its a layer of thin aluminum with sticky rubber underneath
you remove the paper backing and stick it down.it comes in a roll 3'x50'
not more than 040. thick if I remember right about $40.00 a roll.I dont think the double layer at the seams would show thru the 040. skin I'm using for my roof.
