Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

I am using a 20 lb. propane tank, tongue mounted on my build. I have been surprised at the price of the mount brackets. Most are 60-70 dollars, and some are over a hundred. I'll pay it if I have to, but I would rather buy one (just less expensive). I can weld, and fabricate, too, so I have many options. What have you guys and gals done for your tank mounts? I am open to anything that cuts the cost a bit......

Go to GOOGLE and search IMAGES, "propane tank mount" as search string... lots of ideas, you have tools and skills you just need a "seed" of design inspiration.....

well you could bolt a milk crate down, drop the tank in it, then bungee cord thru the handle hooked to eyebolts..........but..i guess that would be the redneck way...lol

And probably not too safe in case of any kind of accident I’m afraid. It’s always cheaper to do it yourself, but you have to buy a welder and practice a bit. There are a lot of talented fabricators on the forum. If you can find something simple, you can always have a local welder do it. I’ll probably buy a welder shortly, but in the meantime I’ve had several things welded buy a local shop and usually for $20-50 bucks (depends on how big of a job it is).

Thanks to all. I followed the link in planovet's post and found a tank mount that I can "improve" a bit and use. About 22 bucks, just what I was looking for. A little welding and some paint, and I can check that off the list.

If I hadn't seen it, I wouldn't have believed it!!! You know, down south, we see some real redneck contraptions -- I've actually seen something nearly like you were describing; therefore, I don't assume anything anymore. Being originally from the north, I wouldn't have considered it -- I guess I been in TX too long

You don't have to be from the south to have experienced this. I've seen it more times than I can recall. Of course, all a person would have to do is bolt the crate to the frame and then securely anchor the tank to the crate using the same sort of attachments they would use to anchor it to a metal frame.

Any respectable southern country boy would be able to attach that propane bottle to the tongue of a trailer with nothing more than a bit of haywire, no need for crates and bolts or Yankee engineers............

Just as an interesting side-note: being from Washington State, and Washington State having neither enlisted in the war between the States, nor even existing as a state at the time, cannot, technically, be a ‘Northerner’… or so I’ve been told.

Also, not being raised on the ‘left’ part of the state, I Could easily be given [political] minority status

Well, maybe, but anybody born north of Dallas is suspect...............

I made my 20# cylinder mount with 1" box tube. It is a square with miter cut corners welded together. On one side is a 3/8" welded in stud and on the other is a 5/16" bolt that screws into a small welded onplate and on through the box tube. The propane tanks have holes in the base for the stud and bolt to go into. The tank hold down is welded to the teardrop tongue. Sorry I have no pictures.
