Mechanical hatch prop tips?

Hello.

I'm going to use these hatch props.

http://www.austinhardware.com/item.cfm? ... id%20Props)

Does anyone have any tips on placement, angle or whatever for proper installation. I have looked at a few pic's with the search function but not any real dialogue. I'd like to keep the number of experimental holes to a minimum.

This thread has some good pic's.

But I could use some help.

Thanks

So. It seems that I'd have to extend the prop to coordinate a spar and the side mounting area along with the desired hatch opening so as not to hit ones headbone. Prolly use broomsticks to simulate desired opening height. Maybe even add a spar.

The body mounting point has to be below the hatch rib. It has to be between the spar and the hatch hinge yet low on the body. Sort of triangulates things.

Am I on the right track? I won't be able to install them until the paint is dry. Just trying to get a visual.

Basically, I just estimated a position that would (a) open the hatch wide enough so I didn't bump my head, and (b) cleared all the obstacles in the galley when it was closed.

Here's a good description of my process taken from another thread:
"I marked, with tape, where I wanted the props to mount when opened and compared the given sizes. I then closed the hatch to see if I was at the closed length or longer, longer is not bad. If not I moved my marks until the two worked. I wanted the mounting points out as far as possible."

Other than that, you want to make sure you attach the ends of the props to something solid. Hatch ribs, side walls, etc.

Cool. Thanks. I also noticed that the two pieces will slide past each other farther than I thought. I was thinking that I was limited to the ~14" closed.

I'm pretty close to having a good placement. I may put in another vertical spar that will grab the horizontal hinge spar and one about 24" down the roof line. It will gain some depth on the side wall also.

I'll have to wait and see.
