Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

I realize this forum is for "Tiny Travel Trailers". My husband and I recently got our Little Guy 5-Wide, and are loving it. However, in 5-years, we are planning to "semi-retire" and we are going to "work camp". At that time, I know we won't be able to live in our teardrop. We're going to need something bigger.

We haven't decided what kind of rig we want, for full-timing. It does not have to be one of the huge ones. It just has to be a comfortable size...comfortable enough to live in, full time. So, I started wondering if we could build something (we'll have five years, to do it). I am so inspired by all of the builds, that I see on this forum. Building your own allows you to have exactly what you want and need.

When we do this, I plan to keep our teardrop. I do not want to get rid of it. If we have to keep two vehicles, one to pull the "home" and one to pull the teardrop, that's what we'll do. I know that we will want to go places on our days-off, and we can take the teardrop. Also, you never know when family would want to visit, and the teardrop would make the perfect "guest room".

I saw a build on here...I think it was called a "cable car". It was teardrop shaped, but it was HUGE (for a teardrop). I'll have to see if I can find it, again.

So, has anyone built a BIG TRAVEL TRAILER? If so, what were your experiences?

The maxi tear was pushing the envelope. It is not concidered a tear by the hardcore but the shape is real familiar.

How about building a small motorhome to pull the teardrop with? You could have the best of both worlds. :thumbsup:

THAT is what I have in mind. I've just never seen anyone build a motorhome. I wasn't sure if it was possible.

a good base for a small motorhome would be one of those van based shuttle buses or a van chassis shorty school bis

One of the things we are thinking about building is a large trailer to take to Naples, FL or AZ every winter. As such, we would be living in it full time too. And we have 10 years to build it... But we will probably start building it next spring.

It's 16' long, and 78" wide. It has a full time table, full time queen sized bed, and a full time bathroom.

One could most probably build a small motorhome on an old hearse chassis. I have often been in a hearse down the highway. Can they fly! Good engines too! Since no-one wants them, they go very cheap when the funeral home retires them.

When you retire at night you can think of the folks who went in it before you.... :lol:

google homebuilt travel trailer...or better yet, go to youtube and search for it...that build always, always comes up for me when im searching for stuff for my build....the guy built a 35 or 40 foot camper with slide-outs for like(according to him) 9500 dollars..

Gage do you have a picture of that semi truck tanker from Jerome, AZ. That is the largest teardrop.

I still think the Dodge Sprinter would be a great platform to build a little motor home on. Those things are big and they get close to 30 MPG fully loaded supposedly... :thinking:

Great ideas! I love your plans, MIke. And, I can't believe that 5'th wheel that the guy on the youtube video built,, with no experience. WOW!

Surely we can build something, in five years. Now that I know it's possible.............. :thinking:
