Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

Think this would be a good donor frame for a 5x10 Woody Benroy style? Owner says it is a 5.5' X 13.5'. I could go a fuzz wider without my feelings hurt and chop off the tail end a little.

I'm still in the scheming phase for a first time build. Hoping to get started this spring when the weather is better here in Michigan (and income taxes come in). Just wwant to start collecting parts when I see a good deal.

Well it looks "heavy" and the does not seem to be any suspension between axle and frame... Center section looks like old truck frame....Lots of work there to make something doable out of it....

well it does look heavy and it does look to be a homemade job , but i think its doable...might take some work but for $52.00 dollars i dont think you can go wrong with it.....my trailer is a boat trailer that i added metal to it and i got for free so i wasnt to worried about it....i think this is a good buy...go for it...

on edit: also you may think about what TV you will be using...this might make your decsion better....

I think I would keep looking. Since you have plenty of time before you start building you should be able to find something better. I started out by telling all my friends and co-workers that I was looking for an old boat trailer, utility trailer or camping trailer. It took about 6 months, but I found an almost perfect trailer for my project and it was free. You might not find a free one, but you should be able to find a better one.

Yep, as noted above. You can do better. I used a 13' vintage trailer (that was 80% rotten) as a doner. That one your looking at is to heavy and will require to much work to make right. The main side rails on mine are only 4' wide and I built a 5' wide teardrop.

most of the 15 -16 foot 1960s campers have a main frame 55 x 144. I see a free one every couple weeks on craigslist.

My vote is to pass.

Too big, too heavy, too much of it is patched together already.

If you buy it, by the time you reshape it into what you want, you could have had a frame custom made for the same or less.

I used a donor frame from an old boat trailer, and that frame you are looking at looks too heavy, and just not right for a Teardrop.

Frames come along all the time. You can do better.

It might serve well as a utility trailer to help haul materials for the teardrop build - for that price I would probably get it, but not for a teardrop.

I originally was going to use a 'free' frame from a pop-up, however after tearing it down, evaluating and DOING the work involved to make it suitable - it was still too heavy in my opinion. So now it has been relegated to a utility trailer.
