I'm at the point where I'm framing for the roof vent, and I'm a little stumped. I've got a 14X14" vent, and if I frame up even and perpendicular to the ribs, then the roof is going to be low in the middle because the radius of the sides makes them higer by about 1/2". If I radius the supports, then the vent will rock on top of the mount! There's got to be some happy medium that won't leak.

Everyone did so well on the mattress question I posted a few weeks back that I thought I'd try again.

You mean the fan is sticking up a 1/2 inch high? What model are you using?

Actually, is that something that really has to be avoided, a half inch? Especially with a hatch that opens?

Just curious, so i can further investigate even more aggravation that awaits me. And if this thread gets too long, I just might scratch the fan--since I have AC.

I've seen this covered before and the people that have roof vents make the part of their tears flat where the vents go. It doesn't look like it goofs up the profile at all.

Yep--the Cubby profile has the roof flat.

Thanks for the reply! I guess it's not too late to change the profile. I can take a belt sander and flatten the top of the sides and the tops of the side mounts for the Fantastic roof vent. I got the Fantastic Vent with the thermostat, but without the rain sensor.

Any ideas on how to trim down the garnish? It's about 3" high, and it needs to be closer to 1 1/2".

Hey JB , I just installed my vent this weekend& I had to cut my garnish down an inch. I used a utility knife to score the outside of the rim that goes into the vent . To keep a straight line use a metal straight edge & score the plastic several times ,then bend it to crack it off( I hope that makes sense ) & watch the fingers!! Good luck!

On mine I just made a 16" flat to accomodate the 14" vent.
