Build simple windows

Postby rxc463 » Sun Nov 29, 2009 6:37 am

I ran across this while looking for shed windows for my camper. It's pretty basic but may be a great boost for those that want to take a shot at building their own custom windows. You will probably need to be comfortable working with a router or table saw as they use rabbeted construction. Automotive type glass can be had reasonably from most glass shops.

Hope this helps someone! :)

Politicians and diapers have one thing in common. They should both be changed regularly, and for the same reason.

I would suggest that all the measurements given in that page need to be approximately halved to be useful for a teardrop - cutting the frame out of 2x6 would make the window frame weigh more than the door!

One simplification would be to forget the window sash altogether and make the window from a piece of 1/4" or 3/8" acrylic/polycarb glazing - just bolt the hinges and catches directly to the glazing - indeed 3/8" is probably thick enough that you could tap the glazing and screw into it.
