Bare with me here, this could be a little long. You put the line in the clamp loosely, take the black doubling tool and sit it on the clamp so it is beside the end of the line. You want to the line to come to the top of the bottom ridge on the tool. About an 1/8" for 3/16" line. Now tighten the clamp, use a pair of pliers, it needs to be TIGHT. Put the nipple in the line, you might have to clean the inside ridge from the cut. Put the clamp on and turn it down. Now this is the tricky part, you HAVE to make sure it is going down even and level, squeeze it till the die hits the clamp then back it off and remove the die carefully, it might be a little tight. Now you should have a bulge in the end of the line, check it to see that it is centered (if not, cut off and try again) if it is put your press back on and center it, tighten, watching that it stays centered also. Squeeze it down until you get a nice cup, don't try too hard or you can split the flare.
Now if you did all this and the hole looks centered in the line and the flare is nice and even, CONGRATULATIONS!! you did better than most of us on the first try. If all of the above don't apply to you finished flare, cut it off and start over, it will leak.
My advise is to practice on a spare piece of line, these things can be real tough to use then other times they go real good.

And don't forget to put the fitting on the tube before doing the double flare.

Probably should have mentioned that I guess. Yep, I have forgot it on occassion myself. That's usually when it flares real easy.

And that usually happens when you only have one shot at doing it right.

And you only had enough line to do it once.
