Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

I'm looking at piano door hinges on my build and was wondering what's a good open to support the door. I've found Stainless Steel local in 2" width which means 1" on each side. Is that wide enough?

...that is the size I used on our first build..worked great...don't forget to peen the end knuckles onit so the pin won't drop out, going down the road...

same thing I used... got at a marine store.... stainless.

I think they dimple the hinge so the pin can't move.

Ok so 2" is large enough, you say they dimple the pin so it can't move even if you cut a 6' down to size

You might have to do your own dimpling, or make sure you hang the hinge with the factory dimple on top.

Make sure the pin is stainless too. I didn't! The leaves were stainless, the pin is rusting!!!

How can you tell, Where's a good supplier for stainless if the ones I'm looking at don't have stainless pins?

Wish there was an easy answer. I still have the blister pack mine came in and the label said 100% stainless. Maybe it was just a REAL cheap grade of stainless.

I found my SS piano hinges that I used on the lodge at Fastenal! I assume the pin is SS - hasn't rusted.

How funny I've been talking to the Fastenal guy that makes the deliveries here at the prison and he getting me a quote with discount on them.
How wide were the ones you used on the lodge? the widest I see in the catalog with predrilled holes was 2" I assume that's open flat

Mine are 2" wide when open - 1" each side. Seem to be okay. My wood doors are fairly heavy. I just took one off to re-skin the inside and re-attached it. No problems with hinge. They did come without holes so I had to drill each one. I mortised them into the wood framing and applied epoxy under the hinge mounting surface. They were pricey compared to zinc,

Will zinc work just as well for an outside hinge? Didn't think the price was to bad for a 6' hinge that I could split in 2 and do both doors

Zinc will rust over time
