Ok I have got all of the trim for the hatch dry fitted and I am ready stick it down what do I use?

Silicone, Polyurethane or 3M 4200 sealant looking for something to stop the water from traveling under the trim. It doesn't need to glue it down the screws will hold it. The manufacture of the Fantastic Vent recommends silicone. The blue box store likes silicone as well. I decided I only want to do this once so I'm putting it up for a vote. Please tell me the pros and cons. Here is the link to my build journal so you can see what I'm talking about.

I spent 4 years in the chemical industry. We had to plan for plumbing and venting of liquids and vapor that could and would literally kill you. We relied on silicone as the last ditch sealant. Spend the $6.00 a tube and get the 100% silicone only. If you were to try and remove the parts down the road you will find that you have to cut them apart with a sharp knife and with some degree of difficulty.

My lexan roof is sealed with 100% silicone and in the 2 years of service it has never failed me. It remains flexible thru a wide range of temps and comes in several basic colors.

The only down side is that it is NOT paintable so what you see is what you get!



The dark center strip is ice dam tape bridging the 2 sheets of lexan that make up the roof. Over that is a 10 inch rip of lexan to cover the tape and there are 2 very generous rows of 100% silicone on each side to create the 1st line of defense against water infiltration. 2 years and just like Krylon " No runs no drips no errors"

OK Silicone it is. I think that was easier to work with than the 3m 4200. The squeeze out was much easier to clean up. Thanks for the help bobhenry.
