Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

I received some nice samples of the Aluminum and Stainless today in the mail. And majority is 1mm in thickness. Stainless is 0.05.

I was surprised by the fact that they have a nice Black, Maroon, Silver, and Grey. All in all my favorite colors.

Now Id like to know if this aluminum is suitable thickness at 1mm. ?
To me 1.5mm is too thick already?

0.039 inches; pretty close to the 0.040 everyone on this side of the pond uses

Thanks, so thats a good thickness then.

I inquired about some mirror finished aluminum too but so far no response but 0.05 mm stainless is mirror finish.

I don't have a good answer to your question, but I believe the conversions of metric to imperial are:

1 mm = .040 inch
1.5 mm = .060 inch

I have purchased .040 aluminum for my teardrop. It seems like is more than sufficient thickness when applying over a plywood skin.

By the way, I read that Kimi will not be in F1 for 2010. I think this is a loss for motorsports.

I had a piece of aluminum that was the 1.5 and that seemed awful thick to me but with the 1mm looks sufficient and not bad to work with. Over ply its sufficient I would say.

Indeed Kimi will not be driving F1. Real sad but you never know. He may be back. For now he is trying out somthing different.

The 1.5 mm is thick enuf that it would not need backing. Dependent upon the alloy and temper, it would stand-alone once formed.

Now all Im searching for are them rounded top rivets such as, umm was it on some tear or canned ham. Maybe I,ll run into some of them here someplace.

Im getting ready for spring searching for parts and such. No building going on at this time due to bad weather and cold.

If you can find a supplier for these: no bucking required

I've used 1mm alu on my tear. I think that 1.5mm is too much and will be hard to work with....especially if you're alone

How about the sizes of the sheets....can you get them i larger lenghts than 150cm x 305cm ??

Thanks also for your input. I was told that I can get the aluminum in 1500 cm wide and whatever length I like. Im going to go visit the company after the holidays to see it with me ol eyes.

I,ll post the prices I received from them later today local time.

Also Im going to try my luck at bending some corner moulding with a shrinker stretcher that Im able to try before buying from a dealer here just to see how it works. I sure wish Santa would bring me a heated garage rather than a freezin igloo

Noobie question here: what is the application for those drive screws. I don;t get how they work. Is there a second piece, a 'nut', for that fastener?? Thanks.
