Postby Rusty drop » Wed Jan 20, 2010 5:51 pm

OK, I am going bananas trying to figure it out what to use,,, :? aluminum, vinyl etc.. everything is so freaking expensive!!
what other and cheaper options are there to protect the edge on my TD??
my budget is max about $80.00 but some companies charges half of that just on shipping... any ideas? :worship:

Thanks in advance.

My first one I used a carpet seam binder and seemed to work pretty good.

Your building a nice teardrop. Don't skimp now. If you don't have enough money to buy the correct parts then save more and buy when you have enough. One of the reasons it's taking me so long to rebuild the KIT that I'm rebuilding is because I keep running out of money. Being retired, money is tight. I also get most of my parts from Lil' Bear.

I'm with Gage, but...

If appearance isn't critical, you could go to a salvage yard and strip trim off an old trailer.
'Course then you have to spend time removing it, cleaning it, and maybe straightening it.
Usually, unless you are unemployed, in which case building a trailer is probably a bit lower on the list than food and rent, working a few extra hours for wages, or doing extra jobs (mow lawns, etc) ends up being a less expensive way to get the needed parts.

If trim costs $100.00, and you make $10.00 an hour, working ten extra hours makes more sense than taking 8 hours off work to drive around for a day looking for trim, spending $20.00 for gasoline, and another $30.00 for the used trim.

If you just need a little more time to get the money together, but want to go camping before you can afford to buy the trim, you might consider some high quality tape to temporarily seal the corners.

It is pretty common for people to bring partially finished trailers to events, and finish them later.
No one will give you grief for going camping in a partially done trailer.

Hey, Rusty!

You could always take a drive up to Walt's RV in Fontana ... they carry over-run trim and sell it at near salvage prices. Great source for all you So-Cal guys & gals ...

If rain isn't an issue, then you can still camp in it before you are "done". I think I used mine 3 times before I deemd it "done".

I don't think my wife will enjoy camping in the rain...
I just want to get it done... I also have a 19ft toyhauler that would use if there are chances of raining.

Thanks.

Oops, I forgot all about Walt's. Sorry. I do go there and look around off and on. And sometimes come home a winner. They are also an outlet for 'over stock' from Fleetwood. ;)

Yea but it's keeping me in the garage and working on the KIT. We're even getting some snow once and a while. ;)
