I just don't understand. I measured it once and cut it twice and still have a big gap. Maybe I was suppose to measure it twice and only cut it once. You think? I'm so confused. :o

Gage, shift the hinges a bit upward and that will look a lot better...

or, if you insist on a "fix", :) then pull the door and cover the edges with a run of the laminate that you used for the surface. A bit of sanding of the edges to smooth and Bob's yer uncle.

Barring that rip the door a bit smaller and add 4 strips of a nice contrasting hardwood and call it a design feature!

All in all, a trivial issue. That is coming along very nicely.

Gage, Did you use inches or millimeters? ;) Id say install trim on it, best way to cover up a mistake. Other than that Gage you are a true craftsman that tear is looking very nice. :applause: :applause:

I used to convert my vans to campers.. Once, I measured a window and cut out the rectangle in the side of the van, only to discover, to my dismay, that the window had rounded corners...

Had to make an unnecessary wooden frame to put over the hole to accommodate the window... crap happens.... and then you fix it.

Bob's yer uncle?!?

An English expression, relating back to nepotism in the Prime Minister's office in Edwardian times.

From phrases.org.uk:

Another interpretation is that it derives from the supposed nepotism of Lord Salisbury. Piers Brendon, in Eminent Edwardians, 1979, writes:

"... in 1887, Balfour was unexpectedly promoted to the vital front line post of Chief Secretary for Ireland by his uncle Robert, Lord Salisbury."

The expression has degenerated to meaning "and there you have it" or similar task completers.

Gage, there is no such thing as mistakes in woodworking, only "design changes". :o :)

Looks more like a calculated clearance to allow for the proper operation of the hinged aperture cover than an accidental gap to me.............

Looks like the cat is out of the hat so here's the rest of the story. Yes the gap was planned. At first I was going to put a red light behind the door as an accent light at night but got to thinking that it's my sisters teardrop so I'm going to add some decorative molding around the door instead. ;)

 I wonder if you can get a rope light that small. Maybe one of the places that cater to auto detailing. Could serve as a good night light.

LOL
