George,

If you plan to camp in "camp grounds" in the USA designed to accomodate camping trailers, the curb side, or passenger side, is the better choice as all the amenities are on that side.
(picnic table, fire ring, cleared area)

If you plan to camp away from people, it doesn't matter.

If you are going to camp with your significant other, you may want to reconsider. :D

because you are on the road for part of every trip and need to do things during your time on the road, I say curb/passenger side just for safety if nothing else.. no matter what way you look at it, when you stop at X and need to put your whatnot in the trailer, it is alway going to be safer to do that from the curb. the traffic side is dangerous for obvious reasons but so is the hatch. all you need is someone to rear-end your trailer as you're standing behind it with your back to the traffic and you're done.

Who sleeps on what side? Who gets up most often at night?

Personally, I think 2 doors is best, but if not, the passenger side.

Your name caught my attention because of this:

A really wonderful artist.

Slow your build down a little

I spent some time reading thru the forum before I started my tear. I paid particular attention to the threads related to regrets. I noted several things, building 5' wide vs 4' and two doors, were usually most mentioned, (and also building lighter). I would suggest since you are still building, reconsider where you are heading. I knew I wouldn't want to crawl over the wife at night to go to the bathroom, so I went with two doors. It is of course your build, and if you stay with wood, then you can always change that in the future, alluminum would be harder.

plus another vote for 2 doors.

Makes it easier to get out if you're tipped over

Is that a first-time teardrop outing initiation ritual? :o

I'd recommend 2 doors, but if you insist on one, put it on the curb side.

nope, or at least I don't think so, even though it was his first TD. It was mentioned as a possibility by a local regretting only having one door.
