5x112 trailer hub availability in US...?

I own various VW vehicles with 5x112 bolt pattern (Vanagons/Passat) and would love to have rims on the trailer that match my tow rig. How easy/difficult is it to get trailer hubs with that bolt pattern here in the states?

Sorry if this has been asked/answered in the past...

You can call one of the axle manufacturers and ask if they can make them for you. I don't know about VW very much so I don't know if the bearings would fit on to your trailer hub.

The British manufacturer of Flexiride does list a 5 x M16 x 112 PCD hub (M16 is a big stud, ~5/8"):

However these are half-axles with an 1800kg (3960lb) capacity, plus then you have the horrific shipping costs to the US, so it's not really a good idea.

You could have a "standard" hub redrilled and reuse studs for your 5 on 112mm pattern... Perhaps you can find manufacturer that can supply blank hubs or is willing to do a "custom" drilling.... Any machine shop should be able to redrill almost any available hub...

We do it all the time to fit different wheel (ford and chev) patterns to our VW dune buggies ( early VW (69 and later) with 4 lug hubs and drums ) ....

Here's another adapter option for you to look at. I'd like to do the same thing. Similar price to what vwbeemer mentioned too.

A while back I modified some hubs and rims for "Big" Guy (Teardrops for Vets). Toyota uses a 5 X 4.5 on some of their vehicles. He wanted to use Toyota alloys to match his car on his trailer. We drilled out the holes for the studs to 14mm (as I remember) and pressed in metric studs. We also had to bore out the hub of the rim to fit over the hub of his new axle so you may also have to bore out your rims to fit over a trailer hub. In addition, the trailer hubs stick out more so you probably won't be able to put the original hub cap back on.

However, if you want to procede, check with Century Wheel and Rim in the LA area and see if you can order an axle with blank hubs or brake drums.

Here is their web page:

click on the "undefined" dot in the middle of the Pacific Ocean on the map!

If you can find blank drums or hubs they can be drilled to any pattern you wish. If you can't find blank drums or hubs it would be possible (IMHO) to drill 5 new holes inbetween the original holes. If you need 4 holes that would present a problem unless you can find an axle with the capacity you want with a 4 bolt pattern.

If you want to procede I could do the machining on my mill and it would take a morning or so. I'm in Simi Valley about a hour North of you. PM if you have more questions.

Cheers,

Gus
