Not sure if this is the right place to put this, but Overstock.com has a great price on a Queen topper, 4", and $2.95 shipping.

How well do the toppers work in place of a mattress?

And, are they easy to cut?

Nicer than 4" of foam, not as nice as an 8" mattress?

It cuts just like foam.

It makes sense to be cautious, but I've had great luck with Overstock.com. Bought furniture and a big 3 drawer lateral file cabinet--all perfect, high quality, fast, economical, no problems. I don't think I'd buy a product without checking the product itself out first online. If it hadn't been rated by other customers I'd check for ratings at other sites and wouldn't order if I couldn't find any.

Too bad. I've bought from them several times without issue. I guess
I was just lucky.

JC Penny has a 5" topper (not Serta) in queen size for $109 and if you look online for coupon codes you can get free shipping.

Just throwing that option. They also have some smaller sizes/thicknesses.

You need to be careful with Penny's firm as it tends to be very firm. Mine was like a rock. Had to put a topper on it.

Isn't "memory foam" real heavy? Curious what the weight difference between this and an air mattress?

this price is so low because it is not 4" of memory foam. it is only 1-1/2" of memory foam bonded to a 2-1/2" base of regular foam.

Air mattresses are pretty light, 'cause they have only the outer layer. They are intrinsically cold, however, and do not breath. My foam mattress doesn't weigh that much. I like it well enough to not consider anything else.

My bed in my bedroom is a layer of memory foam bonded to regular foam. Came from Costco in a plastic box. I think someone might sink in and disappear into pure memory foam.

My mattress in my tear is 4" of regular foam. a 1-1/2" layer of memory foam would be nice, but I haven't needed it so far.

Hmmm, didn't think about the heat thing. Not so bad when it is about 50 degrees but could be an issue when cold weather camping. Maybe have to have the wife sleep on the bottom.
