Well I put the black goo on today. I agree with whoever said "no matter how hard you try, it still gets all over things". Will let it dry till Monday now and then paint the frame black.

I assume that you put the black goo on the underside of the floor?

If so, what brand/size black goo did you use?

Which black goo did you use? I did my floor using black asphalt fence post paint from tractor supply this afternoon.... it wasnt as thick and gooey as I thought it would be, but it definitely dries to a nice heavy duty surface!

I got my black goo from Lowe's. Can't remember what it's called but it was very thick and dries in 24 hours. I did my floor frame and a 5x8 floor with a gal.

That's where I got mine. Its called Henry's. It is roofing tar, so look in the roofing section. I paid around $10 for a gallon. I used most of the gallon on my 4 X 10 floor. A 4" "weenie roller" worked really well for the application.

Same here although I used a brush. Wear gloves and clothes you don't mind getting dirty.

It dried in about 48 hours and is not gooey to the touch. I've installed stuff under the tear afterwards and it did not come off.

I picked up a gallon of the Henry 201 for $12 at Home Depot...haven't applied it to the underside of the floor yet as I am still waiting for the fibreglass resin to cure.

Has anyone had experiences with both Henry's Asphalt Roof Coating and the Black Beauty Asphalt Fence Post Paint? Are there pros/cons to each? How do they compare?

Well, how dumb do I feel. Black goo is still tacky and not drying at all. Think I might have used the wrong stuff. This stuff I tried to paint on but was so thick it didn't work. I finally ended up using a hard bristled brush. I will give it till Wednesday but really don't think more time is going to help much. I'll get a 6" scraper and scrape off all I can and call it good. This is the pit falls of building in a storage unit. It does get warm out but by the time it heats up the unit starts to get into the shade and starts to cool off. Also, I think a gal. is a little too much.

Give it some time, it may still harden up on you. Mine hardened up pretty quickly but I applied it in 90+ degree weather. I know some on here have said that theirs have stayed a bit gooey. It may depend on how thick you applied it.

Has anyone just used tar paper? When I roofed a house we put the roofing paper down and used light tar sealant and flashing on the edges. Would this work? The only reason I ask is because I plan on starting my build in 8 days and our highs are feeling great, but that's only 50's. I don't want to apply tar that takes weeks to dry or wait until the end of summer to be warm enough to apply.

Just a thought.

I discovered the black goo does dry. What I got all over my pants is dry and won't come off. I think my problem was it is so thick and I had to use a hard brush, like a push broom, to put it on that I coated it too thick. Going to use a scraper and remove the excess. Whatever chemical is in this stuff should have worked it's way into the wood by now. Maybe I can still salvage this project. I'll take some pictures today.
