What are the advantages and disadvantages to these hinges? What is generally accepted as the best to use as the galley hinge?

I used the Second one. The hurricane hinge. I thought the first type might crack or breakdown to quickly.

Jeremy you can make a hinge like they show with the Plastic and aluminum strips. Its been done before.
However I also have a nice hinge from Grant such as the "Better than the Hurricane Hinge".

Welcome to the forum Jeremy. I used the Better than Hurricane on two TDs. If you are in Mesquite TX. come up to Beavers Bend State Park near Broken Bow Ok. the weekend of the 26th of March. There will be a bunch of us there and you can see all the hinges you want. Check out the South Central Section for more info. Good luck with your build.

the most generally accepted hinge is most definitely Grants "Better than hurricane hinge". I used the harsh environment after doing alot of research and obsessing for a couple of months, I looked more at peoples actually experiences rather than my own inexperience of what I thought might happen. Either choice is a good choice. Kinda depends on your style.
