Was *thinking* I could make one, something like 4 foot square that has 2 separate cushions ... beats just rolling it ( bedding ) up & shoving it under the cabinets. ( just in case its raining and want to sit some where dry , with coolers and a tv close by. :) )

Its ok, to tell me I'm out of my mind.

Out of your mind ? Not at all We like our couch in the barn and it truely is a comfortable set. God forbid we have to set out a gathering inside but if we do it will be with TV a couch and a cooler close by

The frame was put together with a $5.00 yard sale futon frame and some scrap wood from work.

The foam was a freecycle find 1 full size mattress that I split down the center.

Yep easy to do, built mine on wood runners kind of like draw slides.

I will be building one myself. I will be putting a wood runner down each side of my camper that has notches drilled into it on the top side of the wood. the leading edge of my "futon" will slide along the top of these wood runners and will slide into the notched runner, one notch for sprawled out position and one notch for bench/futon position.

the joints i am going to use that new plastic hinge everyone's talking about. about 18 feet for this bench/futon bed and some for the camper door and if i have an outside access panel etc. i should just get the whole 50 ft roll of that stuff eh? :P

Our teadrop shell is only four feet tall. I didn't want to reduce the interior height for the futon framing, so I angled the face of the headboard cabinet as a backrest. I don't have a good picture that shows the angle, but you can see it in the dados I cut in my sidewalls.

Our "mattress" will be 3 or 4 cushions. For a bench, we will use one cushion for the back, sit on one, and stuff the others under footboard cabinet.

Sounds like a terrific idea!
