I have the typical weekender galley hatch but I also have two 21"x28" doors in back that swing outward. The galley hatch overlaps these doors to make the whole thing water tight. I can't figure out what type of latches to use for this arrangment. By latches, I mean doorknobs, only not doorknobs. I would like to use individual latches for the doors and a seperate latch for the hatch. Does anybody know if this is possible to do and how would I do it/what type of latches.

If the two lower doors latch into the floor via a pin, the hatch can then latch via pins on the sides, into the sidewalls.

The bottom doors could be done with "T" handles, flush latches, or even a pin that drops straight down from the top, to be covered/protected by the hatch.

The hatch should attach with a lockable handle.
Could be one like this;

Well, I haven't seen it, and I usually come up with more than one way of doing things (kind of like spelling). But my first thought would be to use a slide bolt for one swinging door to to give something solid for the other door's spring latch to latch to, then a three point or two single point latches with locks for the hatch. Or, if opening the hatch will allow access to a slide bolt on each door that would work too. For the hatch I would consider a three point system that would latch the hatch to the side walls as well as in the center.

Just my thoughts, not engineering or recommendations, Ideas come easy without the obstacles of reality to complicate matters.......... :lol:

Okay, will do. I'm not quit to this point yet, though. I will place the doors in the position where I want them and snap a picture of that.

I had similar ideas about those three way connecters. Just don't know how to hook them to the doors and hatch. I've been looking at" Lil Bears" latch handles. I really like the looks of them.

If you want simple you can just use barrel bolts into the bottom and side latches for the hatch or even a single one attaching to the doors. :)

The best way I can explain what idea I have is the way a camper shell on a pickup is set up.

Not too sure what barrel bolts are. Are they the things that are usually used on the bottom of french doors?

Thanks everyone for the great ideas. :thumbsup: I can take it from here. I like the barrel bolt idea for the doors and a key latch for the galley hatch.

here's some pull/latches. you push the button in and it latches the door and the knob stays flush. then push again and the knob pops out for use and unlatches the door at the same time.. these are cheap and very simple installation..

Once I get my sides up and I have 2 temporary spars making sure they don't fall down.

My question is: The next step is to put in the kitchen??? Is that what will make the sides not lean? Or should I ask is that what will make the sides "square"?

I'm curious, because my inclination is to put in the other spars, but I won't do anything until I get some feedback.

I know there has to be a method to this madness.

Thanks in advance for your words of wisdom! :D
