Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

Howdy folks,

I have an unorthodox teardrop build that I have been building body off of chassis. I am now at the point where I need to mount the body onto the chassis. I was hoping to find a few guys that might be able/willing to help me man handle the whole thing. I know there are a number of builder in the Dallas area. Sounds like fun huh? I am thinking around Sat 4/24. I can make burgers and such. I am not above begging...

The teardrop is sitting on top of a 2x6 frame that it will be removed from and placed on the real frame.

That's looking really good. I would like to come help but we will be camping that weekend. Maybe some of the other folks around here will be able to help out.

Sorry, I'm way too far away. However, you might want to run a 2x4 through the door, make an A frame to support the box. Then screw supports on each side of the back of the box and roll the frame under it. Just a thought.

Thanks for the responses, advice and interest in assisting. I think I may have a problem with the plan to mount the cabin to the frame which is going to require another week or two of work before moving it.

I had planned to fasten plywood to the frame with sheet metal screws, and then sit the cabin on top of it. I would then use the 2x4 blocks that I have mounted to the side walls to attach the cabin to the plywood deck.

I think I need to remove all of the 2x4 blocks, and add perforated angle iron to the side walls 1/2" up from the bottom so that I can recess the plywood inside the cabin.

Then, I think I need to drill holes through both sides of the frame rails so that I can attach the cabin with carriage bolts. If I mount it first, I will not be able to access the frame.

I am wondering about undercoating. Do you want to do that first too or is that already covered in your plan? I see alot of exposed wood with alot of hidey hole corners that water will love.

I am bit worried about water as well. I am planning to contact cement galvanized steel flashing to the bottom of the floor, and JB Weld all of the overlapping seams. Once I remove all of those 2x4 blocks, most of the nooks and cranies should be reduced. The outside is going to be covered in fiberglass, as well as most likely the bottom half of the inside.

I had planned on this being a plug for a mold, so I am having to get creative...
