Well, I have been talking about this for so long, and now it's done.
I have uploaded some photos.
My teardrop is somewhat further advanced than these photos show, so I will attempt some more up-to-date photos shortly.

The black thing is actually the back of the storage box at the bedhead and forms the back wall of the drawbar storage box. It is a piece of 18mm form-ply.
The mudguards still need to be lined with metal to prevent rocks and other road debris from piercing the ply. The guards actually sit on metal brackets rather than 'hang' from the walls and I can stand on the guards with my 110 kilograms (240 lbs) of weight.
The cost of the guards runs out to about $3.00, which is about the cost of the screws, bitumen and glue. As for labour costs....I don't want to talk about it.
