Wall attachment question

I am using the Dado style wall attachment (see sticky) and have been wondering about the bottom board. Does this need extra protection other than epoxy, silicone and aluminum trim on the bottom ? Do you put anything between the trailer frame and the board (epoxy, roofing tar, etc.)?

I was wandering through a box store and saw a 1x3x10 of hardi board for $7 and it got me thinking that this might be my answer to a low maintenance, well protected bottom board. I would just use it for that one application not for siding. Has anyone used this before? Any thoughts on this or the above protection issues? Thanks.

As log as it is well sealed with epoxy; no other protection is needed. Water will not run uphill but any exposed (bare) wood will allow water to climb.

I epoxied the ends of my ply and it sits on the frame. I figured the glue would take care of the rest...

The weight of the Hardi-board is quite high, and you will still have to seal it to weatherproof it. You could probably get away with just epoxy on the bottom although it is not UV-resistant. I used spray automotive undercoating over the epoxy. Probably the most effective and least expensive method is to use asphalt-based roof coating or fence paint.

The Hardi was heavy, but I was willing to use it because it would be just one board on each side, but if regular wood will suffice I will go that route. Thanks!
