I am curious as to what type of stop/turn/tail lights most of you use and where to get them. Has anyone used the round lights that mount by way a grommet ring and are pretty much flush with the wall. How thick can the outer wall be and still be able to get the grommet to fit?

Oval, surface mount LED ones work well. These are a new one we just started to carry, they're $15 each.

Schaney, Can we get those with a chrome rim? I was going to get some surface mounted ones from Innovative Lighting (here's the link) They are surface mounted but less than one inch thick. But they are almost $29 each.

I loved the LEDs taillights - until one went on the road! - try finding a replacement as your trying to make it home

Since then I use the LED lights that can be placed in an incandescent socket

Why do you say that? I'd like to benefit from your experience and know what you know!
Thanks.

John, We're a dealer for Kaper II lights, their surface mount lights do have the same chrome trim rings available as the Innovation lights. I'll have to check on pricing, I don't currently stock the chrome trim rings.
Gus, IMHO, surface mount light are easier to install, no big holes to cutout or leak.
Depends

That's kinda what I thought. I inset the gromet lights into the bumper which is made out of 2X4 steel tubing. Looks very "finished". If you're installing lights on a hatch or other flat surface I agree the surface mount lights would be easier to install. Really wasn't that difficult to cut the oval out for the gromet lights.
Cheers,
Gus

This guy has a lot of automotive type taillights, if you don't like the prices, at least you can get an idea of what's out there and then do a search. I've gotten a number of items from him in the past, he's been good to me. Doug

I like those, I got a pair at O'Rielys, I think they were about the same price, and no shipping! They also had some side marker lights that went well with them. EDIT Got the recipt out, $24.99 each

Here are the companion LED side marks I use with the surface mount, oval LED tail lights. They are less than an inch tall.

I wish we couls use this type over here, they are a lot cleaner looking. But we have to have red, stop/tail lights and an amber turn signal. We also have to have a pair of red triangular reflectors which realy ruin the look
