Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

While motorcycling we always carried reflective covers for our bike and trailer to protect them from the sunlight as they sat. I have been looking at taking a JC Whitney reflective car cover, cutting it to size and backing it with the Reflectix insulating material to use for my tear. Has anyone else tried this, and if so, what were your results? Might also work for people wanting a skylight but not the interior heat build up during the day. Maybe someone already makes such a product, but if so, I can't find it.

Aluminized covers will do just about the same thing as aluminum skin. White skin will do the same thing. All you are asking is that the sun's heat rays be deflected away from the tear. I go for "simple" and am planning on skinning my tear in white coated aluminum. Just my opinion, I know, but I think having to put a cover on the tear when I stopped would just be one more thing to add to the list.

What about something like boat cover material to protect you tear from the sun and rain? Would that help keep your baby shiny and new?

I probably should have explained a little further. My tear roof is made of marine plywood and after being coated it will, on a scale of 1 (white) to 10 (black), probably be a 7. I will be using it from NE to Fla and would like protection from not only the sun, but also from the heat on ocassion. I was considering a cover from the lower front to the lower galley with a strap at the galley hinge to keep it in place with the galley open.

Opps. My mistake. If your top is wood, then yes, I'd find a cover for it. Makes good sense, and would also make good sense to go the route you mentioned...............reflective as well as waterproof. Good idea.

Ahhh , Old Timer, would that be called a Teardrop Bra ??? Gee ,what if there were 2 TD's with a cover like that parked next to each other?!!!

Being a manly type tear I prefer it to maybe a jock but certainly not a bra!!!!!

You might find of interest...they also sell it in larger rolls... or cut to size.I found a couple pre-made 6x 8 tarps in spokane last week,a yard sale...only 2 they had...good for reflecting the sun...hope the link works..This material is sowable..looks like good stuff...Ships from COLORADO Larger amounts avalible,look in their other auctions.
