Hatch Notch depth

I am basicly following the generic benroy plans with more of a camp-inn style hatch. (Not going all the way to to the floor) I have Grants new Huracane hinge. I just want to be clear that I still need to cut a 3/8 notch in the sidewalls to acomatate the thickness of the hatch ( 1/8 wood + .032 alum, and then the hatch seal. Is this correct. I thought I read somewhere, somebody said 3/8 was too much....Thanks

I posed that same question to Grant on his website. Rather than trying to re-quote what Grant said, here is his response:

Thanks for the great link, I will make the cut tomorrow. Just currious did you go 1/4 and if so was it ok. It seems to me with the alum skin, 1/8 board and gasket that would be a minimum.
Thanks again

I just used 1/8" plywood (single layer) with .040 aluminum sheet and this was plenty stout.
