Galley Wall Support?

Postby Blackjack » Fri Jul 16, 2010 11:05 am

I am getting closer to completing my TD build. I have a quick question that perhaps someone could assist me with. Below are 2 pictures of my galley walls. Do you think I should put supports on the wall for the galley lid or not? I am using 3/4" walls right now.

I think you could bolt your struts right to the wall. (If I understood the question.)

Here's how Jst83 did it...

That's a pretty common set up. My Little Guy had 3/4 birch ply walls, and used this same strut set up.

I was just wondering, as 3/4" is not that thick. I was also wondering if by adding an additional 3/4" to the side walls, would it give the hatch more support when closed? It would also give the seal more of a surface in which to seal, if you know what I mean.

Your thoughts?

I'm pretty sure I'm following you, I would probably double the wall thickness in the galley at least above and in front of your counter and cabinets. your right 3/4" isn't much to screw the lifts into. And the more surface area for seal makes good since also. my walls in the above pic are about 2" thick and I had to put solid filler behind where I screwed cause the wall an the inside was to thin and the screws ripped out when I shut it the first time.

Hope my rambling made since. Good Luck Blackjack

Thanks, I appreciate your input. I think I will double the walls, just to be sure my screws do not get ripped out like yours did.
