Kit Owners - What are these Rims From? Hubcap Alternatives?

Postby Classic Finn » Sun Aug 15, 2010 2:38 pm

Hello everyone. We have a question for you. What are these rims from? The wheels are 15 inch Tires say F 65 15 St Are these somthing special or Special Trailer Tires Maybe?? We dont have such marked here nor are the 6 bolt easily found..Spcialty tires yes for caravans but not with the ST marked on it.

I should mention these came with our 47 Kit. & I highly doubt these are original. Had them inspected and these tires are unsafe due to them having cracks, and split with some rot found on them. So we need new tires ;)

Here is a photo of 1 of the 2 Kits in our yard.. there you cans see the hubcaps that came with it.. Genuine Chinese Chrome..

Image

Id like to go with very wide whites. Would that be 3.5 or 4 inch? With this size of tire as mentioned above? Or can I go with a higher size tire? This is the look We would like to achieve. (Not ours) but very nice tear. Does anyone know what size tires and Wheel is on this specific tear and is it 6 bolt or 5 by chance? looks like a California Atmosphere in the pic.. ;)

Image

Any recommomendations?

Now the axle center sticks out about 3.5 inches from the rim.. What are my alternatives for rims and what can I do to find suitable hub caps. Tried baby moons but due to the center sticking out so far I came upon Coker Tire Hub Caps which are called (Bullet Cap Short) 3 1/2 inches.. it will fit but sure does look tacky. And it doesnt suite my taste.

Pic to assist with our question.

Heikki, an F65-15 would convert to the metric equivilent of a 215/65/R15 tire. Fairly tall and narrow by todays standards but very retro looking. Can you get a measurement on the lug pattern on the wheels? 6 hole wheels are fairly common here on light duty pickups. Nissan and Toyota used to use them too, not sure on the newer stuff. Should offer some selection at least (if not low prices)

about mid way down the page in the link is a section with a conversion tool for tire sizes. Hope that helps a little.

Greetings Shaun and Thank Kindly for your reply. I,ll get that measurement for you.. Also would you have an idea as to what kind of a hubacap could be used instead of the ones that are on it now? Or how can a baby moon or somthing nicer be fitted to this hub or is it so that it cant be at all?

Im not so good with this tire stuff

Very nice to hear from you.

Heikki,
Boy, I don't know about hubcaps. Those hubs are really tall compared to most aren't they? Have to ponder that some. Maybe if an aftermarket wheel can be found it may offer some solution. The only thing that comes to mind off the top is maybe something for 4 wheel drives, as they often had longer front hubs too. The full covers like the one in the pic above looks good too.

Did Kits come with hubcaps originally? Seems like many in the pics I see don't have them, maybe thats why...

Good to hear from you too

Maybe the reason I see such variety of wheels and tires as well as hubcaps is that they have been replaced by new axles with modern hubs?

Also it could very well be that I never really stopped to look as closely till now seeing ours.. :)

now thats a very possible reason I'd think. Back then it was more about making it work that anything else. I bet some of the experts like Grant and Gage could shed a little light on the subject.

Do both your Kits have the same wheels?

Maybe some chrome lugnuts and cleaning up of the grease cap would help..but then again it may not be good if the grease fitting is out in the open??

The seals and such are sure greased up. So that is no issue at all. We checked them recently.

Searching I came up with these. If my memory serves me right Doug Hodder has wheels from this company..I could be wrong though but these I like. Now if only they would fit.

http://wheelvintiques.myshopify.com/pro ... -12-series

or http://www.wheelvintiques.com/index.php ... artillery/

Have to check the offset 1st. And to see what type of hubcap would fit

Finn...I have a similar set up on the Voyager but on 5 bolt 15" wheels. You need to get the diameter between the cap nubs on the center of the wheel, and match the bolt pattern to a manufacturer...I'm thinking it's a Chevy...you got a 46 PU...compare to the ones you have, see if it will bolt up. Chances are...it's something that is readily available. My center hub sticks out 3" but the depth of the cap is 3" also and it sits out on the wheel center, not flush with the bottom of the center. There is probably more than enough room to fit it on yours.

These are smooth stainless caps, they also have the stainless trim rings. Here's the link...go to accessories then find the moons. I'd drop them a note and use my pics if needed to get what you want, once you find the size. www.thewheelsmith.net

Here's a pic of the back side of the cap. The inner lip hooks up with the nubs on the inner portion of the wheel hub.

You think you have problems Heikki, try looking for 12" beauty rings. You have any of them over there?
