Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

Restarted on #2 and as always I am thinking three steps ahead of myself. The door will be trimmed with 1x wood all the way around, may have it planed down to 1/2. My question is what to use for hinges. The way is see it if I use a piano hinge the door will only open 90 degrees. What to use for hinges?

you can swing 180 degrees with piano hinge if there is nothing to interfere (door handle etc.)

These where my 2 thoughts on using a paino hinge and with each the trim will hit the hinge at around 90 degrees or less.

I'm at the point of getting the door hinges too ... and will likely go with a continuous (piano) hinge.

I will not always want my door to open ALL the way anyway,. my windows crank open and don't want an open window to hit the trailer side!

right! I see your problem now.. let me check some catalogues and I'll get back to you...

ok, here's something that will work.. they are for cabinet doors so depending on your door weight you will need to use 3 or 4.. one of your problems is that your lip is only 1/2 to 3/4 inch thick so off the shelf stuff may be hard to find..

there is also hinges called 'swing clear' they are made for entry and passage doors ( 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 thick but you can see the idea here.. this is basically what you need.. the pin location.. you can get regular wide leaf hinge and have it bent at the right location for your trim thickness..

Ok, here's another option for you. I trimmed my doors with 1/2 inch poplar and used "torpedo" hinges. An added benefit is that the doors can be lifted off if you want to remove them.

I think the best hinges I've seen for home mad doors has to be
boat hatch hinges. They can be purchased at different lengths to
clear the trim around the door. this is what I'm talking about.

Just use an aluminum or Stainless piano hinge. Keep in the folded closed position with the knuckle facing out. One side of the hinge is attached to the wall of the teardrop and the other to the back side of the trim board. There is be a gap between the trailer and the trim board the thickness of the hinge. Put your gasket there. Would make a nice seal.
