OK, don't laugh, but I have a window question.

I bought two door windows and a large front window from Lil Bear a couple of years ago. They're standard, operating, anodized black camper windows and they came with inside rings.

My question is this: there are no holes for mounting screws anywhere on these windows? However, the rings have screw holes. Am I assuming correctly when I think that you're supposed to drill into the flat, inside, of the windows and run a sheet metal screw through the ring and into the window?

Also, the windows all have a rubber ring gasket inside the outside face that seals to the outside of the camper. Does anyone use additional caulk around the inside of the outer lip, or is the gasket enough for sealing the window when it's pulled in tight by.........see above stupid question.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I'll also except snide remarks and digs . A pox on me for a clumsy lout.

B, since I don't have any Lil Bear windows, I don't know if my experience applies...BUT, on the slider type RV windows I have used and seen, the screw holes in the clamp rings should line up with a groove on the inside of the window...the screens also go into these grooves...a #8 X appropriate length sheet metal screw goes thru the clamp ring and into this grove...no additional holes should be needed......

The windows I have used had no gasket and I choose NOT to use the clamp rings and drilled holes in the outer flange and screwed 'em directly into the wall/door with a sealant under the flange...it has worked very well for me......

Me, if I had Lil Bear windows and had questions about their installation, I would ask Lil Bear(Grant) what he recommends......

I like your idea. Did you just drill holes through the outer lip and use lag screws to secure the window to the frame? The gasket inside the windows I have, (which I bought three years ago), are part of the frame. They can't, as far as I can tell, be taken off. I was considering using a sealant above the gasket for extra protection. I can't imagine that an exterior adhesive sealant would damage the gasket material?

And thanks again for the great information on the epoxy, Madjack. I'm hoping to get to that part next weekend. You did say that you can apply additional coats about 4 hours apart, right?

B, I drilled appropriate sized holes(1/8 or 3/16...I think???) about every 4" and used #8 x 3/4 SS pan head screws(I painted black) to fasten window to door...you can certainly use a caulk as well, I believe that Fantastic Fan recommends that technique when installing their vent(although I just used caulk)...I did sand/epoxy the inside edge of the window cutout and painted it black........
...yes on the epoxy, I would put a coat on in the morning and another in the afternoon and even another later that evening...once the epoxy tacks up real good you can apply additional coats...if you try to put it on while the existing coat is still wet, the new coat is liable to "slide" right off............

I think your method for the window installation sounds like a winner. I think I'll go that way. For some reason, the screws through the ring on the inside into the lip just sounds like a prelude to disaster. All that bouncing down the road and all. I'm sure there are scores of campers out there with that type install, but screwing it down from the outside with an adhesive caulk bead around the frame sounds permanent.
