Building to store outside

I have to store my teardrop outside, not under cover other than a UV/water resistant cloth cover (but not a dropcloth!). Would fiberglassing the sides help? I think covering the whole thing (not just the roof) with aluminum would be best, but my husband wants wood sides -doesn't like the all aluminum look nearly as much. So I'm trying to find out what I can do to weatherproof the sides as best as possible. Perhaps marine grade epoxy/sealant, but I'm thinking fiberglass might be even better.

If your husband wants the woody look, seal it all up with about 3 coats of clear epoxy, then spray that with about 3 coats of clear automotive enamel or urethane ... just fiberglass or epoxy do not have UV shielding, that's why you need the automotive clear over them. Check out any of Dough Hodder's builds, or Steve Frederickson's, or several other's, and you'll see what I mean.

But, if you're painting it...

As I posted in two other topics already today, The Squidget's paint is still holding up well after nearly 5 years (per phone report to me recently by the guy who bought it two years ago). The plywood was coated with fiberglass epoxy resin (two or three coats on the edges), then primed and painted (Zinsser 123 primer, Glidden latex porch and deck enamel).

I am loving my herculiner exterior and floor inside! this thing feels built like a tank. I could probably float down a river in it too heh.

MaryK in Florida built a cool structure for her woody. I think there is a build thread for it, but I can't find it.

The walls are built like a fence, so air can circulate, and it has a rood and gate, so it is out of the sun and weather.

I'll keep looking for it. Maybe someone else knows where it is.

My next build is going to be aluminum. It think it weathers better than wood.

However, if you must do wood, check out what the kayak builders do!
