Putting a Lid On It

Postby sleepercatcher » Sat Oct 16, 2010 9:18 am

Hello All,
I put the top on the teardrop using luan plywood. I had to use hot soaked towels to wet it, then I tried to bend it. As it was bending, one of the plys popped.

there's a crack

there's about a 1/8" gap in the front

and there's a slight gap where the side and the roof meet

I was thinking of using epoxy filler from the Rot Doctor for the crack but I'm not sure how to repair the pop or the gaps. I'm going to have to try to refasten a part of the gap in front using glue and staples. I'm considering using Durabak to paint the trailer, I've contacted the manufacturer and they say that CPES is not necessary, however, the rot doctor recommends CPES so the epoxy will seal better. I'd appreciate any thoughts or advice.

for the gap, I'd force glue up in as best I could, put wax paper over it, then a 2x4 across it and strap it down.

On the ceiling/wall gap, it it is firmly attached, as was mine, I filled the gap with bondo. It not firmly attached, bondo then additional screws.

I used cpes.

Where it popped, same thing. force as much glue (titebond) under it as you can and strap it down.. I use my air compressor to blow the glue into places like that.. but low pressure, about 20-25#, not 120.

I would Epoxy thickened with airocell, microballoons, or some other filler from one of the epoxy retailers along with fiber glass tape on the cracks and seams.
Here is one. http://www.raka.com/
