Is driver's-side-only door really safe?

I am wondering about the number of TearDrops I have seen that ONLY have a door on the street (driver's) side. It seems to me this might be unsafe for loading and unloading on a busy street.

Also, most campgrounds that have concrete pads are set up for the door being on the passenger side. I think when I build mine, I would like to have BOTH doors, for safety and also, when my bride is with me, we don't have to crawl over each other to get in or out. Any ideas?

Regardless of which side it's on, I personally wouldn't feel too comfortable with just one door. Really hard to load the tire, make the bed and escape if need be.

Dave:

Did you mean to say Load the Tire or load the tear?

I think that if you decide to go with only one door, placing it on the kerbside of the trailer would be the safest way. Most RV's and trailers i've seen have the door there

That's why I have two doors on both of mine. One door sometimes in campgrounds can cause problems with setup with obstacles in the way or postion of teardrop with nieghbors. Two doors is really is a really good idea late at night for late night bathroom ventures. To crawl over someone or being crawled over can get old. You have to have a really good sense of humor at times anyway to sleep in there with some else, to go to bed as friends, then wake up as friends (with the wife in my case). Two doors does help big time

The six-pack only has one door on the curb side. The only reason I did this is because the slideout is on the other side, and there was no way to put a second door.
Any other tears I build will have 2 doors unless I am building it for someone who only wants one door.

Woody has already stated the reasons I want 2 doors.

I was thinking of building mine with only one curb side door... I really can't see the necessity for two doors. If an obstacle is in the way at a campsite, spin it around... these things are small and lightweight. My small popup camper only has one door and I do the same thing. Unhook it from the truck and wheel it around as needed. Just my opinion which is worth exactly 2¢.

You will think twice when the call of nature happens at 3 am. Teardrops are just a tab bit smaller than a popup.

The call of nature takes place 2-3 times a night for me (medical). Wife on the other hand doesn't move all night until the alarm goes off. I'll think about. Thanks.

I built my wall in total, then cut the doors in (no door trim). Required a bit of extra cutting and double hardware... no way would I want just one door. Even for general getting in and out from either side anytime of day.. just too handy for the minimal extra effort and cost involved.

I'm with you, one door is fine. KISS. No matter how many times I've got to take a leak, I can only get out through one door at a time.

I've slept too many nights with someone against the wall who had to crawl over me to get out to answer the "call". I'll cut two doors in mine thank you.
