Tongue to Rear Axle distance.

I am a newbie to Teardrops and still searching thru all the info already posted, trying to decide where and how to begin a build.

I was also browsing thru the sticky: Side Profile pictures ( http://tnttt.com/viewtopic.php?t=7138 ) and noticed it appears some plans have the axle shifted towards the rear away from the tongue.

I don't see or can find any documentation or thread that pertains to moving the axle and for what reason it is done.

Can some one post a link where this may be already explained and why?

I used Andrews sheet for my utility trailer which gets 1500 lbs of scrap steel on the back and 100 lbs of brass, CU, AL, SS etc on front. Tows like a dream fully loaded.

generally, the axle (or equalizer in a tandem setup) is centered at approx. the 60% mark of the deck (60% of the deck in front of the axle centerline, 40% behind) but what it really comes down to is tounge weight. A good rule of thumb is to put 10-15% of the trailers total weight on the tongue, and have the trailers axle/suspension carry 85-90% of the trailers weight...some prefer the tongue weight higher, those numbers are meant for cargo carrying traielrs, so how they are loaded comes into play then as well.
As was already stated, a trailer with a longer distance from the tow ball to the tire contact patch will back up much easier, as it wont turn faster then the tow vehicle can, hopefully.
