Canvas skin for teardrop

I was reading the 'Thrifty Alternatives' thread (here: http://tnttt.com/viewto ... c&start=45 ) and saw laursand's canvas skinned teardrop. It looks beautiful, akin to a canvas skin on a boat deck or canoe. She used Titebond II as the matrix to bond the canvas to the plywood.

She mentions an article by a guy named Tony Grove that she based her work on. I couldn't find the magazine at my library, but turns out Tony posted the article on his BLOG! http://www.tonygrove.com/articles/nordi ... at-pt3.php

I'm leaning really heavily towards this approach instead of aluminum for my cubbie build. Anyone else do something similar? Thoughts?? Thanks.

I went with Vinyl.....marine vinyl....lots of colors and a good option in my book.

Another thought . . .skin with any color canvas then overlay with thinner cotton material in the pattern of your choice . . .stripes . . . .plaid . . . .or . . .of course . . . .

I am planning my second build already. a skin on frame boat style construction taken to the travel trailer extreme!

i'll build my whole frame system lashed together with artificial sinew through holes drilled in the butt end of each timber piece. then run all of my electrical and plumbing.

then skin the whole thing and shrink it tight and impregnate it with epoxy resin with added pigment.

then I can go inside the structure and spray foam the whole interior and shave it flat to the wooden framework. and skin the inside with my choice of finishing.

I am really looking forward to it! and its quite possible with a build technique like this, with all parts available at time of build. It is quite possible to do a full build in a weekend! (of the main structure anyways then your just left to finish out the inside and add exterior lights and trim things like that.

Artificial sinew ??? That's got wax on it Sure looks Cool though ... Build sounds doable ... sure should look Rugged Cool ... Light and well insulated too ... Camo would look nice ... for off road !!!

This build by Dean Tenis has some type of canvas/naugahyde (sp?) skin. He also sells plans for building the Chummy II, seen laying on the bed.
