Any ideas on the best way to mount a rack on my tear?

With lag bolts or screws.

Sorry couldn't resist. To get a better idea of your TD situation, post a picture of your trailer. Some have suggested attaching to the sidewalls to help with weight distribution. Do you have adequate blocking to mount the supports? Did you build or acquire your trailer?

Big Dan!

If you look real close at this picture ...

Image

... you will see the removable racks & mounting system that I sell at Li'l Bear Tag-Alongs - www.LilBear.teardrops.net/parts.html

I through-bolt the stainless steel "Quick Rails" with large fender washers on the inside and self-locking nuts, but depending on your construction, you may be able to use lag bolts (though, I wouldn't trust them for very much weight)

My rack's towers are more suitable to the typical teardrop, IMHO, because they are more upright and less likely to interfere or make contact with the sidewalls.

Give me a holler if you would like any more info. As always, then ...

Thanks for the info!!! I was looking at the campinn rack from Yakima. It has a clean look but I'm not shure if its strong enough for my needs. I plan on hanging a tent off of it So when the wind blows it will be pulled in all directions. I think through the side wall would be best. Thanks again.

NICE RACK!! I have a gutter type adjustable type ladder rack that I am thinking about using to carry a canoe. I am building to be able to mount the rack with bolts securely. Be sure it is strong and not damage the existing walls or create a leak. Bill

Reciever hitches.Or a smaller version.Mounted to the frame and supports that slip into them then go in whatever direction you need. You could even do it on both sides for a rack that would be removeable if you used bolts or hitch pins to secure the crossbars. The supports could probably be designed to be carried under the trailer(in some kind of rack) when not in use or if traveling.
